In 2004, Medea Corporation (founded in the late 1980’s) was sold to Avid Technology. The co-founder of Medea purchased the rights to one of their products from Avid (a two-drive RAID storage system) and opened up a business in Santa Monica. The company sold products to a local community of creative professionals. In 2006, they signed an agreement with Apple that increased their product placement in U.S. Apple stores. Their revenue skyrocketed.

In 2008, after being acquired by Fabrik Inc, G-Technology introduced the world’s first 500GB portable storage at Macworld Expo, as well as the industry’s first 1TB portable external storage drive. In the 2009 Macworld Expo, G-Technology announced the first family of external Solid-State Drives.

G-Technology is currently owned by HGST.
